RESTORE MEDIA PLANS FIRST-ANNUAL TRADITIONAL BUILDING FORUM TO BE HELD AT COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY IN NEW YORK THIS FALL

WASHINGTON, DC, JUNE 21, 2004---Restore Media will host the first-annual Traditional Building Forum, September 27-29, offering educational and networking opportunities, all at the site of the country’s oldest graduate program in historic preservation – Columbia University in New York City.

The Traditional Building Forum serves as the platform for intimate exchange between practitioners who define the contemporary building team: architects, engineers, contractors, interior designers, trades people, suppliers, artisans, urban or regional planners, developers, procurement specialists, and building owners.
Under the theme “Restoring the Past, Building the Future,” the event is designed to bring the traditional building team together in an intensive, highly-focused setting for a series of master classes with leading practitioners of Restoration, Renovation, New Urbanism, and Traditionally-Inspired New Construction.

Keynote speakers include John Norquist, the President and CEO of the Congress for New Urbanism and Frank Sciame, of F.J. Sciame Construction Co., Inc. in New York. There will be a special plenary joint session on Tuesday, September 28, with DOCOMOMO, led by John Belle, of Beyer, Blinder, Belle Architects titled, "Moving On: Preserving Modernist Structures, What Values Should be our Guide?" The concluding plenary will be given by Donovan Rypkema on "The Economics of Traditional Building."

Learn from experiences of master builders in neighborhoods, inner cities, on historic buildings, and with traditional new construction. Participants will attend four sessions over two days within their chosen specialization. The educational tracks run concurrently and offer programs in either Residential Traditional Building or Commercial Traditional Building.

Judy Hayward, Restore Media Conference Director, comments, "Traditional Building Forum has been created with an ethic for shared learning by, for, and between the practitioners whose business is traditional building. Our goals are to help our attendees improve their businesses through increasing their knowledge and skills in traditional building practice and to give them insights into navigating the contractual, political, and economic environments in which their businesses operate."

Join Restore Media at the Traditional Building Forum. Spend two days with us and improve your understanding of design, bidding, construction management, craftsmanship, and the greater role traditional building plays in securing a strong financial future.
