“Restoration Redefined: Beyond the
Building”
This year, Restoration & Renovation does an in-depth exploration
of subjects that go beyond the building –both literally and figuratively.
Two key emphasis areas in the conference program are contextual
design/planning and the overlap between historic preservation
and “green” initiatives. If the new LEED program, sustainable
design, energy conservation and renewable resources are your hot
buttons, make sure you check out the offerings in the Green Architecture
& Design (GA) and Urban Planning and Design (UP tracks.
The Redevelopment sessions explore a number of issues in downtown,
neighborhood and commercial district revitalization and planning
– including how to implement good design (new and traditional)
in these contexts. In addition, we’ll go “behind” the physical
building and explore the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings
that form the basis of so many of our great architectural masterpieces
in special design sessions offered by the Institute of Classical
Architecture.
