Local and Traditional Materials and Methods: A Global Perspective INTBAU USA Session
Michael Mehaffy is Chair of the College of Chapters of INTBAU, an international NGO dedicated to the enduring treasures of traditional building, architecture and urbanism. He is also executive director of the Sustasis Foundation in Portland, Oregon. Michael has held teaching or research appointments at six graduate institutions in five countries, and he is currently on the editorial boards of two international journals of urban design. He is former Director of Education for the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment, where he formed partnerships with the UK government, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Royal Town Planning Institute, English Heritage, and six universities, among others. He is also an internationally active planning and design practitioner, and author or contributing author to over twenty books as well as numerous journal and professional articles, writing for Traditional Building, Urban Land, The Atlantic Cities, Metropolis, and many others. Most recently he is the author, with Nikos Salingaros, of Design for a Living Planet.
